(My perspective on feminism)
EDITION 1: ON FREEWILL AND CHOICE.
‘Congratulations, it’s a girl’
This was the doctor’s exact words when you slid out of me and into the world. You came out with a head full of hair and eyes as bright as the sun. I knew then and there that I was was going to give you all I could and do my best to bring you up as best as I could. I also decided then and there not to raise you to ‘as a girl should’, but as a child should. I decided not to let you grow up with the idiosyncrasies of our society.
I would like you to know that you have your life in your hands. You have a choice to do whatever you want and be with whoever you want. I’d like you to explore and travel the world. I’d like you to plan your life exactly the way you want to.
I’d love it if you explored love, marriage and having children. Love is a very beautiful experience and if you take after me, I’m sure you’d be a sucker for it. I also want to let you know that it is also perfectly okay to choose to remain single. Like I mentioned before, you have a choice to do whatever you want, whenever you want.
I don’t want you to feel pressured by anybody or anything. You can be anything you want, whenever you want. You can choose to be a full-time housewife and you can also choose to pursue your career. You can choose to scream for the whole world to hear you, and you can also choose to whisper from your little corner.
I want you to know that you have the world in your hands and whatever you choose to be just make sure you’re happy and fulfilled. And also know that I would support you in whatever decision that you make, and that I love you so very much.
